ESCP Research Grant 2016

ESCP is committed to the development of clinical pharmacy across Europe based on the findings from high quality research.   To support the production of high quality clinical pharmacy research in Europe, ESCP awards a research grant every two years of ten thousand EURO (10,000 €) to fund a clinical pharmacy research project which will make a positive contribution to evidence-based practice.

In 2016, the ESCP research grant was awarded to a research team led by Dr Vibhu Paudyal of Robert Gordon University, Scotland (Vibhu has since relocated to Birmingham University, England, where he continues to lead the project). The study is entitled, 'Types of clinical outcomes and methods for their assessment in the evaluation of pharmacist-led management of minor ailments: a systematic review', with a multi-country team of co-applicants:

  • Robert Gordon University, Scotland, Dr Scott Cunningham, Dr Katie MacLure
  • Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland, Dr Cristin Ryan
  • University of Malta, Professor Maria Cordina

It is hoped that the findings from this systematic review will inform future evidence-based practice for the assessment of types and measures of clinical outcomes for pharmacist-led management of minor ailments. the evidence base for practice will hence be strenghtened to promote further extension of clinical pharmacy services and related policies across Europe. The study is scheduled to be completed later summer 2017 and the results presented at the October symposium in Heidelberg.

Watch this space for the announcement of the launch of the next ESCP research grant. For all applications, the Project Leader must be an ESCP member, applicants should belong to an organisation based in Europe, and the project should involve a partnership between at least two European countries.
