ESCP Activities
To attain its goal and principle objectives, and at the same time deliver value to its members, ESCP organises various activities and programmes.
Key activities include:
ESCP organises its European Symposium on Clinical Pharmacy every year in the autumn.
The programme consists of plenary lectures, moderated discussions, round table discussions and workshops allowing clinical pharmacy practitioners from diverse countries to exchange knowledge and experience about new developments in clinical pharmacy.
Oral communications, poster discussion forums and poster presentations, presented by the participants, are permanent features. In addition, Special Interest Groups organise workshops dedicated to specific fields of clinical pharmacy.

Conferences
ESCP also organises annual Spring Conferences. These are generally focused on specific themes to provide more in-depth and detailed professional education. Workshops and interactive discussions play an important role.
These meetings are generally smaller and more intimate that the annual symposia and often held in conjunction with another association or professional body.

Education & Research
Education
ESCP is committed to providing ongoing professional education for clinical pharmacy practitioners. In addition to its principle educational programmes (the symposia and conferences) ESCP also organises regular master classes and educational courses.
On the day prior to the Annual Symposium ESCP organises a Master Class in "Search of Excellence" dedicated to a specific topic relating to one of the
Special Interest Groups
.
The ESCP Education Committee is responsible for overseeing the quality and scientific excellence of ESCP educational programmes.
Research
ESCP is constantly looking for new areas of research and ways to develop the professional practice of clinical pharmacy.
Since the Society was founded, different educational and research programmes have been developed. Several collaborative studies, particularly in the field of drug utilisation review among member countries have been or are still in progress.
ESCP offers awards to individual researches in clinical pharmacy fields in collaboration with sponsors.
ESCP has produced a database of clinical pharmacy courses in Europe.
A number of accredited centres have been established to enable European clinical pharmacists to gain experience in a range of clinical pharmacy specialities.
Special Interest Groups
To allow for advanced interaction, learning and knowledge exchange amongst members with similar interests, ESCP organises Special Interest Groups (SIGs). Founded and organised by members who share topics of interest in common, SIGs provide targeted services --such as special training programmes and in-depth workshops during ESCP conferences-- to other ESCP members with a similar focus.
Publishing
The editing and issuing of publications and journals is an important task undertaken by ESCP. In addition to the Society's own official publications, ESCP also selects existing clinical pharmacy publications for promotion among ESCP members.
Journal
The Society has a scientific journal Pharmacy World & Science (PWS) where research papers are published. In addition the Proceedings of the Annual Symposium are published in PWS.
Newsletter
ESCP also produces a bi-monthly newsletter. ESCP News serves as a link between the Society and its members, providing updates and news about the activities of ESCP, articles of clinical and professional interest and official announcements relating to ESCP business.
To promote the value of clinical pharmacy services among other health care professionals and scientific societies, ESCP has established relationships with societies which share the same interests. Other societies with whom ESCP organises joint activities or programmes include:
-
American College of Clinical Pharmacy
(ACCP)
-
European Association of Hospital Pharmacists
(EAHP)
-
European Pharmaceutical Students' Association
(EPSA)
-
Royal Dutch Association for the Advancement of Pharmacy
(KNMP)
-
United Kingdom Clinical Pharmacy Association
(UKCPA)
ESCP has been recognised by the Efficacy Working Party of the European Agency for the Evaluation of Medicinal Products
(EMEA)
as contributor in the consulting process.
ESCP has also been appointed as an observer organisation within the European Forum of Pharmaceutical Associations and the World Health Organisation Regional Office for Europe (EuroPharm Forum).
